CENAJO HOTEL MAY BE RE-OPENED BY FORMER EMPLOYEES

There have been several failed business ventures at the former Hotel Cenajo, including converting it into a mental health facility, but now Calasparra and Moratalla Town Halls are supporting a move by the former employees to form a cooperative and re-open the hotel.
The building, which has been closer since 2009, sits on the edge of the Moratella reservoir and the massive dam built by Franco’s political prisoners and is currently owned by the Segura Water Board (Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura).
The Water Board is planning to put the property up for public auction and apparently supports an initiative by former employees to run the facility as a hotel.
The idea, according to the acting Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, is that 20 or 30 former employees, from Calasparra and Moratalla, form a cooperative or an association to take over the management of the property.
He added that the hotel would be an excellent compliment to the local area’s current tourist facilities.
