CALASPARRIANS DONATE THREE LORRY LOADS OF FOOD FOR LORCA EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

The plight of thousands of residents of Lorca who cannot or dare not return to their homes following the devastating earthquake last Wednesday has touched the hearts of all Calasparrians, businesses and individual residents alike, and they have responded by donating three lorries of food supplies.
The food collection was organized by the Town Hall and the local branch of the Red Cross on Friday morning: market day in Calasparra. The response was truly magnificent as local businesses, cooperatives, industry, bakers and residents deposited boxes or carrier bags of fresh fruit, bread, fruit juices, tinned fish, baby food and any other items for immediate consumption at the collection point.
In the event it took three lorries to transport the mountain of donated food down to Lorca where it was distributed by the Red Cross among the 3,000 to 4,000 residents who are still living in camps set up by the charity.
