A Calasparrian, aged 72, owner of the Cañaverosa, one of the largest fincas in the area, has died after his light helicopter hit high tension cables and burst into flames.
He is believed to have died instantly after hitting the 130,000 volt cable in Las Minas in the Hellin area of Albacete.
The accident happened at 1.32pm yesterday in an area near the railway. Some residents who were in the area of the accident attempted to put out the fire with buckets of water before the fire service arrived.
The Mayor of Las  Minas, Manuel Mínguez, said the aircraft burst into flames on impact and fell into the rice fields. He added that the pilot had flown over the area of the accident “very frequently.”
An autopsy was carried out in Albacete.
