The charity, UNICEF, has honoured Calasparra as a “City Friend of Children” in the 2016 list published this week.
The network of “Cities Friends of Children”, as of October 25, has 114 new members, municipal areas, local organisations and regional governments, all of which have renewed their membership at a ceremony in San Javier. This means some 41% of children in Spain live in a City Friend of Children.
Each of these cities has designed a local plan to improve the wellbeing of children and adolescents and create space for their participation through local committees and work with other organisations to achieve their goals.
These include:
That every child is valued, respect ted and justly treated within their community.
That the voices, necessities and priorities of every child is heard and considered in the public and political norms and the budgets of the local community.
That children have access to essential services of quality.
That children live in a clean and safe environment.
That all children have the opportunity to enjoy, family life, play and leisure time.
