BIRD’S EYE VIEW OF MURCIA AS REGION LEADS IN LIDAR TECHNOLOGY

The region of Murcia is the first nationally to offer a three dimensional map of the region, using LIDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) capable of measuring the exact size of a single tree or building.

The new technology offered by Lidamur at www.cartamur.com, was officially presented by the Head of the regional Department of Public Works and Ordinance, José Ballesta, earlier this week.

As well as being able to calculate water reserves, measure areas and surfaces and other ordinance surveys the technology uses high precision images captured by laser which facilitates studies of the region’s forests and its capacity to absorb carbon dioxide.

The region is the first to offer direct access to this technology through the webpage which forms part of the National Plan of Land Observation, a joint project of the region and central Government.

The images cover almost 11,315 square kilometers of the region and were taken using laser technology installed on a small aircraft which flew over the region at an average height of 2,000 metres.
