AUTHOR’S PRIZE WINNING FIRST NOVEL TO BE PUBLISHED

The official publication date for the book by a Calasparrian tax consultant, which was chosen as a finalist in Spain´s most prestigious literary award, the Premio Planeta, has been set as March 12 when a special ceremony will be held in the Municipal Auditorium

As one of the ten finalists Fulgencio Caballero won 150.250 euros for his first novel The Quince Box (La Caja de Membrillas).

Nicknamed  locally as “Pencho” this local author began writing on his doctor’s advice as a cure for insomnia. His novel is crafted from his grandfather’s real life stories of the Civil War with other invented stories intertwined.

He declared himself “super prized” that his novel had been selected as a finalist for the Premio Planeta and had received the news with a mixture of “vertigo and fear.”

The first prize was won by international author Mario Vargas Llosa.

The book is published in Spanish.
