The local police arrested two women on suspicion of stealing olives from a grove in Esparragal last Saturday.
The two detainees, with initials A.S.A. and B.H.M, were found picking olives without the permission of the owner of the property. Police officers in a police car which was patrolling the area saw children entering the property with empty cases. Although the children took flight when the police inspected the area they found two women with five minors in the midst of picking olives without authorization of the owner.
The two women were arrested and faced judicial proceedings under the fast track system
The arrests form part of the police campaign to protect rural zones during the olive harvest.
