ANOTHER HIKE IN BANK CHARGES IN SEPTEMBER

Banks and Savings Banks (cajas de ahorros) have increased the commission for the maintenance of accounts and the use of debit cards by 15% according to figures released by the Bank of Spain.
The commissions charged by banks for the maintenance and administration of current accounts cost an average of 25.8 euros in September compared to 22.36 euros in December 2010 representing an increase of 33.44 euros or 15.3% .
The commission charged by Savings Banks was 25.16 euros in September which represents an increase of 3.43 or 15.7%.
The annual commission for debit cards also rose by 15% to 19.89 euros compared to 17.30 euros last December. Commission on credit cards has increased by 7.4% and now stands at an average of 36.39 euros annually.
