The Police had closed the junction some time before and many vehicles, coming from Caravaca were forced to turn around and take the Valentin Road. Some 10 minutes before the riders arrived, preceded by the Organizers, Press and other Media Vehicles, the Guardia Civil and Motorbike Marshall’s cleared the road.
Two riders had broken away and were at least 4 minutes in front of the main group. The support vehicles were, as usual, topped with spare wheels and bikes.
It took around 5 minutes for the entourage to pass and then it was back to normal for the traffic.
Alberto Contador, Team Saxo-Bank of Spain won the event with Britain Alex Dowsett coming fourth for Team Sky.
Contador is awaiting the result of his appeal to the International Committee (the national committee have already cleared him) against doping allegations and should know by the time he next competes, The Tour of Catalunya is at the end of March.
