The Asociación Protectora Dogs Rescue of Calasparra, the only shelterof its kind in North West Murcia, is inundated with strays, Ana Guirao, spokesperson told Radio Calasparra this week.
The majority of the dogs were found in appalling conditions due to ill treatment.
“We take care of their diet and daily care but the amount of work for 25 dogs overhwelms us,” she said.
“We are only six volunteers and we don´t have enough time to take care of all the dogs we have taken in. We would like to have more volunteers, even for short periods of time, to give us a hand,” she added.
Ana also told Radio Calasparra that there were a lot of expenses incurred, caring for the dogs: food, injections, operations and medical expenses.
In order to collect funds the Association has left collection boxes in various places in Calasparra. Also, through Facebook, people can collaborate by giving 1€ monthly.
The shelter is currently caring for an alsation, which is chipped, but may be abandoned.
Dogs Rescue Calasparra are also looking for families to adopt dogs.
“We offer the dogs, completely cured, vaccinated and with an identity chip.” she says,”We invite people to come and visit us and see the work we do and, if they can adopt a dog we are caring for, they will find it very gratifying.”
