The statue of Our Lady of Hope was carried back to the Sanctuary at dawn today in a pilgrimage which starts a day of celebrations for the “patrona” of Calasparra.
The pilgrimage, during the first light of the morning, followed a mass at the Merced Church.
The bull run today was also in honour of Our Lady of Hope, who is considered the “patron” of the town.
Tonight there will be a special candlelit parade at the Sanctuary and later the music group, the Parrandboleros, will perform in the tradtional River of Music Festival which forms part of the pilgrimage celebrations.
The thirty strong group of singers and musicians, including saxophone, trumpets, trombones, drums, guitars and latin percussion, will evoke hot tropical latitudes and harmony with romantic music and boleros.
Editors Note: Tomorrow September 8 is the Day of the Patron of Calasparra and is a local fiesta. Expect most shops and businesses to be closed.
