THE LONGEST BULL RUN IN THE HISTORY OF CALASPARRA

Runners in the first bull run of this year´s fiestas came face to face with bulls, as they turned back and ran out of the bull ring during the longest “encierro” in the history of Calasparra this morning.
Lasting 20 minutes and 11 seconds, the run was described as “difficult and dangerous” although there were no  gorings, just a few grazes and bruises amongst the runners.
During the run three bulls turned back and ran in the direction of the runners and some bulls, which had entered the bull ring, ran out again to meet the runners head on.
Hundreds of spectators, many of whom had been waiting since 8am, passed some anxious and tense moments as three bulls refused to move mid run, putting the runners at real risk. However, finally the personal and herders managed to persuade the bulls to finish the run and enter the bull ring.
This, the first bull run, will go into the record books for the massive number of spectators; more than the usual number of runners; and as the longest bull run  in Calasparra ever.
