Once again sirens and the sound of helicopters echoed ominously around Calasparra yesterday evening heralding yet another forest fire:
Yet again another part of the Molino hill, known locally as the Serratilla del Cabezo de San José, was burning. The Molino still bears the scars of a fire last month and on Sunday fire fighters were called out to a fire on San Miguel.
Fire engines and two helicopters quickly had the blaze under control although a helicopter remained at the scene during the early evening and continued to damp down the area with water from the nearby reservoir
The cause of the fire is unknown.but the heatwave has reduced the countryside around the town to a tinderbox.
Residents are asked to be particularly vigilant and to call the emergency services if there are signs of fire or suspicious activities.
