As we are all enjoying the summer holidays, the Red Cross and Caritas remind us that those people in Calasparra in need of help and support do not take holidays.
Inevitably there are less volunteers available during the holiday season but the two organisations continue to support families and elderly people .
Each week food and basic necessitites are distributed to 100 families locally, says Josefina Miranda, of Cáritas Calasparra and added that donations can be left at the headquarters of Caritas in Calle Abdón 11.
Francisco Morcillo, President of the Red Cross, Calasparra, says some 400 families receive supplies from the Food Bank. The organisation has 60 volunteers, 20 of whom are trained for emergencies and life saving.
