The local police of Calasparra, coordinated with the Cieza force, began a special operation yesterday to control and guard local agricultural areas in order to prevent thieves robbing fruit from the orchards.
According to the police. “as the fruit harvests begin there is more traffic and movement of people and vehicles in and around the orchards and it is necessary to increase police patrols.”
The operation consists of an increase in patrols, specially where the fruit is ready to harvest, on tracks and main roads where there is increased traffic and which may be used by thieves, in order to identify possible suspects.
These will be extra patrols, in addition to those to prevent robberies from houses and properties in rural areas.
The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, says : We are putting all our energy into this to reassure local farmers.”
The local police have emphasised the importance of the cooperation of the public in order to prevent all types of crime.
