A forest fire in the Florida area of Calasparra, which started around 4.30pm, spread rapidly from a small area of woodland to threaten homes and ravage the slopes of the Molino hills.
Residents of the area were preparing to evacuate while three helicopters and fire brigades tackled the blaze to bring the fire closest to the homes of local residents under control.
But, the early evening breeze wafted the flames and soon the blaze spread up onto the slopes of the Molino and helicopters and fire crews struggled to to try and prevent the fast moving flames from passing over the other side of the hill. But to no avail.
As yet the cause of the fire is unknown but, according to our information, no residents needed to evacuate their homes and neither were any homes damaged or destroyed by the fire which was still burning on the Molino at 7pm.
