After years of promises the European Union has finally introduced a maximum charge for “roaming” in the EU which came into force on April 30, and will eliminate extra charges completely by 2017.
Now mobile phone companies may only charge 5 cents a minute for calls or using the Internet and 2 cents for text messages. This excludes IVA.
This represents a 75% reduction in the maximum tariffs.
However, the Consumer Association advises consumers that these are maximum charges and that many companies may introduce special offers for “roaming” charges.
