The Town Hall has announced that it has suspended the contract with the arrested art dealer, Benito Amor, who currently “lends” 6,276 pieces of art worth more than two million euros to the Casa Piñero Musuem.
As reported earlier today the art dealer has been arrested on suspicion of dealing illegally and possessing illicit art works.
Under an agreement between the collector and the former Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, the Town Hall paid 1,500 euros rent monthly for the exhibits.
The current Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, says this is a “precautionary measure” in leiu of judicial proceedings.
The Town Hall may ask for damages if the arrested art collector is charged:
“If the charge is confirmed we will recuperate all the money paid to the Foundation,” he added.
In the meantime, the Guardia Civil continues to inspect 1,000 pieces ceded by Benito Amor to the Town Hall
