Fernando Ruiz Pérez, Justice of the Peace in Calasparra since 1989, gave an emotional farewell interview on Radio Calasparra today.
In a few months he will be replaced by the new Justice of the Peace, elected at the full Town Hall Council Meeting on Thursday, Antonia Esperanza Moya del Amor.
He confesses that when he took the job he knew nothing about the job or the law. Since then he has performed 150 weddings and helped many people.
“The best is to help people, the worst, is to take decisions that affect people I know”, he said.
“Now I am going to dedicate myself to enjoying my retirement, my grand children and children and also to travel with my wife, given that the job of JP leaves little time for any of that.”
The post of Justice of the eace in Calasparra was created in 1873. The first JP was Gabriel Guillén.
