The United Left and Greens demanded an external financial audit of the Town Hall´s accounts last year and proposed a motion which was passed unanimously: today the Town Hall has published the result of this audit.
The audit was carried out by Juan Ortiz of Abante Auditores, who explained at the official presentation today that it “was not a complete audit” as this would have been “very expensive, long, complicated and unnecessary” and that the object of the exercise was to “verify the financial state of the Town Hall.”
Before officially presenting the general balance for 2014 he noted that his company had approved a sum of de 1,862.000 euros for “bad debts.” This sum refers to an agreement with a building company for an urban Project.
The Mayor of Calasparra, José Velez said the building company had indicated their interest in the urban construction contract and that the agreement was “alive.”
Although, the auditor agrees with the Mayor that “ no irregularity has been committed” and that the “existing norms were observed” he has recommended a revision of procedures.
He also referred to 184,000 euros which the Town Hall were liable to pay but which, in 2015 became “timebarred.” The auditor has recommended that the balance is adjusted to show this amount.

The report ends with the seal of approval of the auditor.
The Mayor of Calasparra, José Velez, has underlined that the auditor enjoyed complete freedom to complete the audit and the total cooperation of the Town Hall.
He said that Calasparra had set an example for clarity and transparency which he hoped the
residents would appreciate.
