The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment is to invest 3.3million euros in the regeneration of hills and countryside destroyed by fire in Lorca, Calasparra and Cieza during August.
Some 1,102,248 euros is destined to the restoration of areas around the Almadenes Canyon. The area burned around the Almorchon will receive 450,290 euros and the Sierra del Almirez some 1,805,154 euros.
The restoration work is part funded by the EU.
The fire, last August affected 2,000 hectares, the majority of which are in environmentally protected zones of great natural value.
The restoration work is expected to be categorized as an emergency due to the need to minimise damage by erosion as a direct result of the fire, and to restore the natural habitats in the shortest time possible.
