RED CROSS RUNS OUT OF FOOD FOR POOR FAMILIES

The local Red Cross has been unable to distribute basic foodstuffs to 200 families in need in Calasparra because donations from supermarkets and individuals have dried up, a spokesperson for the organisation has told Radio Calasparra.
The lack of foodstuffs coming from the Food Banks , supermarkets and individual donors has rendered the shelves of the Red Cross empty and 200 needy families without any help.
“We have reached our limit,” says Francisco Morcillo, President of the local Red Cross, and we are appealing to supermarkets and individuals alike to donate food. We are also awaiting a delivery from the Food Bank like rain in May,” he added.
He also reflected that in France it is illegal for supermarkets to throw food away. They are obliged to donate any food they can´t sell, he said.
Paco Morcillo also reminds people there is another form of collaborating with the organisation: by buying a number in the Sorteo del Oro of the Red Cross on July 23 at a cost of 5 euros.
All the money collected will go towards helping the needy families in Calasparra.
Tickets are on sale at the Red Cross, Novedades Paquita, Ferretería Navarro, Comestibles Lozano and the Bar Los Zagales, among others.
