CALASPARRIAN CANOEIST RESCUED IN ALBACETE

A 43 year old Calasparrian canoeist, stranded when a tree fell infront of him, was rescued after spending the night alone on the river.
The search began at five in the evening but he was not found until seven thirty the following morning. Miraculously he was reported to be “fit and well.”
The drama began during a planned descent of the River Mundo in Ayna, Albacete, when a tree fell across the river infront of the canoeist cutting him off from his companions.
The Guardia Civil were informed of the canoeist´s disappearance and a search was mounted. Conditions were especially difficult due to the rain, mist and the geography of the area which made it practicably impossible to reach the river.
As night fell officers from the Guardia Civil in Leítor, Elche de la Sierra, Yeste, Molinicos and Albacete began to fear the worst. But at 7.30am the following morning a resident of Murcia, who had been helping with search, found the canoeist “in a perfect state of health” near the Carcabos dam.
