A UNIQUE NATURAL TREASURE ON YOUR DOORSTEP

The new installations at the Puerta Cave, just outside Calasparra town, make the site easily accessible and have doubled the length of the route through this amazing cave. (See photo album below)
Although there is a disabled car park, contrary to,previous reports on this webpage, there is no disabled access to the cave itself.
“We fought very hard to get disabled access included in the project but the route through the cave is just to narrow and the steep changes in levels rendered it imposible,” said the Head of the Tourist Office, Maria Dolores Gomariz.
The new route takes about 40 minutes. The cave is extremely warm and very, very humid so visitors are advised to leave their coats at the entrance or carry them.
Although the walk through the cave is very narrow and low in places and there are some sharp changes in levels with steps and metal walkways this magnificent and unique cave is well worth the effort.
The Tourist Office will aim to provide a guide who speaks English for non Spanish speaking visitors but even without a commentary these ancient works of nature, still under construction, are truly awesome.
The cave is open on Saturdays and Sundays with guided tours from 10am to 11am; 12midday to 1pm; and at 4pm and 5pm. Reservations are advisable to avoid disappointment. Groups can also reserve a prívate tour on weekdays by prior arrangement. Entrance is 6 euros per person. Reservations through 968 723 000. English spoken.
