A few drops of very welcome rain over the last two evenings didn´t dampen spirits on the last two fiesta days this September and left local farmers and smallholders very relieved that they escaped the hail which fell in villages around Caravaca.
The Met Office had issued a weather a warning for the North West of Murcia yesterday afternoon and, although in Calasparra there was a lot of rumbling thunder, black clouds and a few drops of rain, in Barranda and Navares, villages near Caravaca, hail fell with great force.
The emergency services received a number of calls on 112 reporting flooding in houses on the nearby Granada Road and the thirty minute storm unloaded nearly nine litres of rain per square metre in Caravaca: nearly 20 litres per square metre in La Encarnación and nearly 10 litres per square metre in Fuentes de Marques.
Temperatures are likely to be much lower today, 30 degrees or less and there is a 30% chance of more rain. There will be a few clouds around for the next few days with a possibility of rain and generally feeling much fresher.
