Thanks to millions of euros of European funds the habitat of otters that live in the “sierras”of the Vega Alta of the River Segura here in Calasparra and the rivers in Alhärabe and Moratalla has been restored.
The Ministry of Environment, the Country and Sea (MARM) has carried out restoration work on the river banks and has created “infrastructures of refuge” for this protected species.
The Otter Project has also counted on the support of the group Ecologists in Action which has carried out replanting, work on the caudal and the flow of the rivers and has reestablished the “natural huerta” (agricultural land) along the river banks..
