HOW DID WE GET AWAY WTH THAT?

At least in Villa Vieja farmers and fruit growers gave a communal sigh of relief as the clouds carrying the hailstones which fell in nearby Valentin, and which destroyed fruit crops in Cieza, Abarán and Blanca, passed on by harmlessly.
Not so in other parts of the region where farmers will not forget the night of San Juan in a hurry as entire harvests of peach, plum, nectarine and early and late pears were wiped out in a matter of minutes. Last year Villa Vieja suffered the same fate and in the nexonr ecological vegetable garden all the crops were damaged beyond saving.
The Met Office predicts that the storms have passed and today in Calasparra we should have pleasant temperatures of 26 degrees. However, temperatures will gradually rise over the week into the mid 30´s although during the nights they will hover around a cool 17 to 18 degrees.
