Three local people have appeared before magistrates in Caravaca for allegedly falsifying prescriptions and securing a psychotropic drug from various chemists in the local area..
The Guardia Civil, with the cooperation of the local police, detained three Calasparrians in an operation called “Afonía” in connection with a criminal organisation dedicated to falsifying prescriptions.
The agents, who have uncovered at least 20 similar offences, also found 30 more prescription forms which were not completed and eight already written up for the drug, Ruifen with Metilfedinato, a controlled drug, used for treating certain mental illnesses, as the main component.
According to official sources, the misuse of this drug can lead to dependence and serious side effects.
The crimes were detected when an assistant at the Department of Health and Social Policy identified numerous prescriptions with the same serial numbers and references for the same drug.
A house in Calasparra, the alleged centre of the criminal activities, was searched and one person arrested. Later two other people were arrested in
connection with the offences.
