Medical staff at the Cieza Hospital are fighting to save the lives of three young Calasparrians whose two companions died in a tragic road traffic accident in Calasparra in the early hours of this morning.
“This is a very sad day for Calasparra. There are five families suffering very difficult times and unfortunately all we can do is offer our love and support on a personal level,” said the local Head of Security, Pepe Veles who was speaking on Radio Calasparra.
He reported that the three local young men, aged between 20 and 35, were “gravely injured” and were currently “undergoing interventions and operations.”
“Our thoughts are with the five families of Calasparra and those from Fortuna, who lost their lives or have been injured in this terrible accident. This is a very, very hard day.”
The cause of the accident, in which four people died and five were seriously injured, is under investigation. Pepe Velez said “It may have been caused by one driver or the other losing concentration and losing control of their vehicle. We do not know at this time and must wait for the results of the investigation.”
