Following a public backlash and demands from the ruling Socialist Party and the United Left the spokesperson for Social Policy and Women for the Partido Popular in Calasparra; the party´s spokesperson and the press officer have all resigned.
The mass resignations follow comments made by the spokesperson for Social Policy and Women for the PP, Davinia Saorín, in the national press referring to women who have abortions as “terrorists.”
She takes with her, Jesús Alajarín, the party´s spokesperson, and press officer, Antonio Céspedes.
Saorín had apologised for her comments but her apology did little to calm the wave of protests her “unfortunate comments” caused..
The ex party spokesperson, Jesús Alajarín, said yesterday: “We are resigning for two reasons: first for responsibility for these unfortunate comments and second, as a result of the lynching by media we have suffered.”
The PP now have just five elected representatives at the Town Hall and must elect substitutes for the rest of their term in opposition.
