The Town Hall has won a prize on behalf of the municipal library for its work encouraging reading in Calasparra.
The competition Lectura María Moliner is part of a campaign to encourage reading and is open to towns with less than 50,000 inhabitants.
The prize consists of 180 books from this year´s new books list with special attention paid to children´s and books and literature for young people.
The competition is organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport with the Spanish Federation of Towns and Provinces and, since 2002, with the Coca-Cola Juan Manuel Sainz of Vicuña Fundation.
The Head of the Department of Culture has announced that the children´s and young people´s section of the library will be renewed and the new books catalogued and put at the disposal of library users. She added that there will also new novel for adults.
