NEW PRICING COULD MEAN ELECTRICITY PRICE HIKE

Electricity prices could rise by between 1% and 2.3% as a result of the Government´s decision to raise the standing charge ceiling on domestic bills, according to the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC).
This contradicts a Government statement that the move would not lead to an increase on domestic electricity bills and could benefit users who consume more.
The ministerial order has increased the ceiling on standing charges for consumers contracting 10kw, around 16 million users by 20% and by 11% for those contracting 10 to 15 kw. This move, according to the Government, means the variable part of the electricity bill, which is based on consumption, is reduced and should result in lower bills.
