SPECS MAY COST MORE DUE TO IVA HIKE

The Government may appeal a EU decision which would increase the IVA on glasses, contact lenses and products from the chemist by 11%.
Currently IVA on these items is at a reduced rate of 10% but a year ago Spain was reported to the EU Tribunal of Justice for breaking the rules. Now the Tribunal has upheld the complaint and ordered Spain to charge the full 21% IVA on a wide range of pharmaceutical and medical products, many used by disabled people, as well as glasses and contact lenses.
The Government is curre ntly in disussions with the EU over the ruling.
