The opposition to the modernisation of the irrigation systems in Calasparra is holding a meeting tonight to discuss tactics for voting day, Saturday, when farmers and smallholders can vote for or against the modernisation plans.
The voting will take place throughout the day on Saturday at the Municipal Auditorium
The last vote was disrupted by the opposition who broke into the auditorium, vandalised materials and furniture and blocked the entrances. Eventually the Guardia Civil postponed the vote due to public disorder.
Anyone wanting to register a vote but nervous about actually going to the auditorium on Saturday can take a copy of their identity papers or passport to the Association of Regantes in Gran Via or the “Librería” opposite. In this way their vote can be registered without them having to vote in person.
