Local shopkeepers have joined forces with the Red Cross in a campaign to provide milk for families in need in Calasparra.
A spokesperson for the Red Cross speaking at a Press Conference yesterday said their food banks were empty and the organisation was unable to assist many children and elderly people who were suffering deprivation.
He appealed to the residents of Calasparra to buy a solidarity ticket for one euro from any local shop which would be exchanged for milk.
Originally the idea was that only shops selling groceries would be involved in the campaign but, according to the local Chamber of Commerce, other businesses in the town also wanted to take part.
From today, Tuesday, you can buy a one euro solidarity ticket from any shop in the town which will be used by the Red Cross to buy milk.
Anyone wishing to donate non perishable foodstuffs can take them to the organisation´s offices in the OAPs Club during the morning or to the Red Cross Headquarters during the evening.
