MAYOR OF CARAVACA CAUTIONED FOR PLANNING OFFENCES

A large group of Guardia Civil officiers with a warrant searched and seized documents from the Town Hall at Caravaca yesterday and cautioned the Mayor, Domingo Aranda, for allegedly authorising the construction of eight thousand houses on protected forestry land in 2004.
The status of nine million square metres of protected land in Archivel was apparently reclassified from “no urbanizable” to residential and tourist use against the advice in technicial reports which were against the reclassification.
The Mayor was advised of his rights and cautioned for “traffic of influences and perverting the course of justice.” If the instructed Judge, Andrés Carrillo, decides it is necessary the Mayor may be called to make a statement concerning the offences, according to sources close to the investigation.
The same sources confirm that the centre of the investigation is the current Director General of the Environment at the Autonmous Regional Government of Murcia, Amador López García, who was responsible for handling the plans in 2004, a Municipal
Technician and the Engineer of Roads J.C.A.
Other sources say no detentions are imminent and point to the purpose of the Guardia Civil raid on the Town Hall as “securing information and documents.”
Other places visited by the Guardia Civil yesterday in connection with the alleged offences were the Segura Water Board (Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS), an assessor in Murcia, an estate agent in Torrevieja and a prívate house.
