Firemen from Caravaca were called to a fire in an underground rubbish container in Calle Lavador near the back entrance of the Town Hall.
The fire started about 11.30am in a plastic rubbish container and clouds of smoke led to the Día supermarket being evacuated and the premises closed until the fire was extinguished.
According to oficial sources the swift action of the fire fighters prevented serious damage. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the local police.
