Representatives of the opposition party, Partido Popular, attended a ceremony to mark the twinning of Calasparra with Archena and Alcaraz in the Albacete province last week.
The event marked the 550th anniversary of an order signed in the Valle de Ricote by the Order of St John of Jerusalem, an order which also has historic ties with our own town.
Calasparra was donated to this religious order in 1289, some 725 years ago, an event marked annually by the medieval fiestas and which provides an historic link between the three towns.
