The local Red Cross organization is appealing to residents to help them bring Christmas to families with children who have been adversely affected by the financial crisis in Spain.
Many families in Calasparra have no money coming into their homes at all as Social Security payments here in Spain are sporadic and inadequate. They are forced to depend entirely on local charities and the generosity of their neighbours for their survival.
The national Red Cross has joined forces with the Ermita of Burgos to try and bring Christmas to some of those children by collecting non perishable foodstuffs and items such as toys and games but also nappies, baby bottles etc.
Donations can be made every Sunday at a special collection point set up in the Plaza de la Corredera or at the new office of the local Red Cross in the OAPs Club.
The organizations are also appealing for donations of five euros to buy games and toys. The donations can be made via the Red Cross Account at Cajamurcia: 0487 0001 68 2000529820.
