The Guardia Civil have arrested two drugs traffickers in Calasparra after catching them red-handed with around 500 doses of cocaine.
The detainees, a man and a woman, who attempted to avoid the habitual stop and search drugs points, face charges of offences against the public health for trafficking drugs.
The pair were surprised at a stop and search control point on one of the roads entering the town centre of Calasparra with a large quantity of cocaine, apparently destined for sale in the North West region of Murcia.
This control point was strategically placed in an area of farmland habitually used as an alternative route by those trying to avoid the police.
The vehicle, a family saloon carrying four people, two adults and two minors, was stopped by the Guardia Civil. At this point the co-pilot was seen moving extremely quickly to put various objects in their pockets in an apparent attempt to hide them if searched.
The officers immediately seized the wrappers before they could be hidden and discovered they contained a large quantity of cocaine. Another, smaller packet, contained various grammes of marijuana.
The Guardia Civil have opened an investigation to determine the origin and destination of the drugs confiscated in this operation, and do not rule out more arrests.
