WARNING: THE PROCESSIONARIES ARE DROPPING

Dogs Rescue Calasparra has issued a warning to dog owners about the processionary caterpillar.
The nests are clearly visible in the pine trees of Calasparra and the caterpillars are dropping already.
They are easy to identify as they live up to their name by moving along the ground in a long procession after dropping from their nests. Their nests are like a ball of light cotton wool.
These caterpillars can prove fatal for your dogs. It is essential to look out for them on the ground and, if your dog has contact with them, go to the vets immediately as they can prove fatal.
Two places where they have been spotted on the ground in Calasparra is near the iron bridge that leads onto the front of the Canoe Club on the river Segura and on the path that leads from the urbanisation, the dogs park and enters the Sierra de San Miguel, among others.
The regional government and the local Town Hall have planb to spray the nests, however, the recent bad weather has delayed the operation.
