REGIONAL RECOGNITION FOR CALASPARRIAN INVENTOR

Calasparrian and inventor, Francisco Álvarez Espín, has been recognised by the Academy of Sciences and his inventions and patents form part of an exhibition in Murcia.
He founded the flour factory,  «Espiga del Segura», previously known as «La Carolina», and the building and the plant remain intact in Calle Teniente Flomesta de Calasparra despite closing in 2012.
His curiousity and genius led him to develop aparatus and equipment for the flour industry. He registered five patents including the  «Densígrafo Álvarez», to graffically control the fermentation process in the bakery industry in 1960, which had international impact.
His creations and patents currently form part of the exhibition «Inventors of the Murcia Region 1878-1966”, organized by the regional Academy of Sciences, in the Vestíbulo de la Facultad de Química, Campus de Espinardo, from February 14 to March 7 and in the General María Moliner Library, Campus de Espinardo of the Universidad de Murcia, from March 10 to 31. Visitng hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm.
