A motion to demand the Spanish Government approve a bus line from North West Murcia, that includes Calasparra, to Albacete, proposed by the Partido Popular has been passed unanimously at the Regional Assembly.
Pepa Carreño, author of the motion, says “the municipal areas of North West Murcia have been left isolated from their natural connection to Madrid and the centre of the peninsula since the railway line was dismantled and the station at Calasparra closed in 2019.
«The high speed train from Murcia has not alleviated the problem,» he said, and claimed that the 45 minute journey to Murcia plus the duration of the train to Madrid meant the majority of people prefered to drive or travel to Alabacete and catch the high speed (AVE) there.
He says the isolation of the North West Murcia region has condemned it to depoulation and has the limited the promotion of public transport which is the policy of the current government.
