NEXOnr readers inform us there was a fire at La Ñora at about 6pm on Sunday evening.
It was our readers who called the emergency services.
“We heard the crackling of a fire and saw a tremendous amount of smoke and flames coming from the land across from us while walking our dogs. It was spreading rapidly, consuming trees and bushes in its wake,”they write.
The police attended and two fire tenders from Caravaca.
“One of the fears was that someone had parked a company van under the shade of a tree close to where the fire was heading but none of the neighbours knew who owned it. Shortly afterwards there was an explosion of fire as the tree shading the van caught light.”
By the time our community minded readers returned to La Ñora the fire had been extinguished.
No buildings were affected by the fire but many fruit trees in the adjoining parcel were badly damaged, our readers report.
With temperatures predicted to hover around 30 degrees this week the danger of forest fires is ever present and can have disastrous consequences. NEXOnr readers are urged to follow the example of our readers and call the emergency services (112) at the first sign of any fire big or small.
