A meeting organized by the pressure group and charity, Cat Friendly of Calasparra, was told that Calasparra Town Hall had allocated 3,000 euros for dry food for local cat colonies and was negotiating with a local vet for their sterlization and care.
The meeting, held in La Daya yesterday afternoon, attended by residents originating from Spain, Britain, Ukraine, Colombia and Ecuador, agreed to carry out a census of all cat colonies in the local area, giving each one a name and identfying members by sex and c olour.
They also disucssed obtaining a provisional card from the Town Hall for all cat feeders, to avoid problems with the neighbours or the local police.

It was reported that the Town Hall would try to inform all residents in Calasparra of actions being taken so that the perception towards cats progressively changed and there would be more tolerance and understanding towards the people who care for them.
More good news was the report that that a contract was about to be closed with the Clinica Quipar so that street cats can be sterilized and cared for.
Finally, Cat Friendly reports that the local Counciller for the Environment and Animal Welfare had given a commitment to complete the work on the municipal animal centre, in compliance with all the specifications of the laws on animal welfare.
