Today, June 28, is the International Day of Gay Pride and Calasparra Town Hall marks the occasion by hoisting the emblematic rainbow flag of LGTBIQ+ outside the municipal building.
Gay Pride day dates back to the Stonewall demos in 1969 and serves to reaffirm the sentiment of pride around identities and sexual and gender orientation and solidarity with these traditionally marginalized and repressed.
