A Calasparrian has joined the regional team of firemen sent to Canada to fight the devastating wild fires which have caused mass evacuations, destroyed hundreds of kilometres of woodlands and contaminated the air in distant New York.
José Diego Martínez Fernández, who has been in Canada since last Wednesday, has joined a team of 16 forestry fire fighters from the Murcia who are collaborating to extinguish the fires in a terrority which remains on red alert and has seen 100,000 inhabitants evacuated.
The team has joined other professionals from Spoain and Portugal and will work for two weeks to tackle some of the 400 wild fires currently raging through the country.
