A wave of success in the regional and local elections for the Partido Popular has chastised the Government of Pedro Sanchez but the PSOE has retained Calasparra by one seat.
The Former Mayor of Calasparra, Pepe Velez, standing for the PSOE in the region, was one of the victims as the right and the far right swept into power in the region and across the country.
The other local surivivor for the PSOE was Bullas but the Socialists have lost in Caravaca, Moratalla and Cieza and drew with the PP at six seats each in Cehegin. In Cehegin the main two parties depend on the single vote of VOX or the new party, X- Cehegin, for a casting vote in order to govern.
The far right party, Vox, now has elected representatives in 36 municipal areas and the PP will need to court them in many regional and local areas in order to form a government. In the regional government the PP have a majority but need two more seats in order to elect their president and govern. They rely on VOX abstaining in order to govern alone.
In Calasparra the PSOE won the election with nine seats to the opposition´s eight. The PSOE lost two seats compared to the last elections in 2019.
The far right party, VOX, have one seat in the Town Hall for the first time and Calasparra Viva have one. The other six seats were won by the PP, two more than in 2019.
The voter participation in Calasparra was a massive 72.97% substantially higher then the national percentage which was marginally less than 50%.
