Medical experts advise that the arrival of summer and the big fiestas and festivals in Spain has brought the seventh wave of coronavirus.
The new strain to hit Spain, the BA2 variant of Omicron, is very easily transmitted from one person to another and, according to the experts, everyone, or almost everyone, is likely to catch it.
The elimination of social distancing measures and the return of mass events and crowds probably mean the seventh wave will be over quickly but the latest statistics show a fall in the number of cases among people over 60 years and a descent in the number of hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care.
Although masks work it is doubtful they will be introduced again as sociologists say the pandemic has caused «fatigue, exhaustion and social and mental fatigue» amongst the population. However, it is recommended that masks are worn in interior public spaces and in crowded areas or mass events.
