The incidence of Covid-19 in the vulnerable group (ie. over 60’s) has risen by 60% over the past seven days according to the regional health authority.
Medical experts are calling for people over 60 years to wear masks inside shops and closed public areas as a precaution and for young people who socialise with elderly people to wear masks to protect those at high risk.
The incidence in the region has increased to 1,100 cases among the over 60’s to every 100,000 head of population with increases in hospitalizations too.
There are currently 276 in patients with the virus, of which 20 are in intensive care.
Experts are warning that the two new strains of the virus are extremely contagious and are asking residents to exercise common sense and sensible precautions to protect vulnerable people.
